Chevrolet Corvette C8 — why it's the best American supercar for Prague
After a month with Corvette C8 Stingray, we share real impressions on performance, handling and usability in Prague.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray is the first mid-engine Corvette in history — after 66 years the engine moved from behind the front wheels to behind the seats, turning an American legend into a full-blooded supercar. The C8 has long been one of the most requested cars in our fleet. After a month of intensive testing in and around Prague, here is our honest review: what thrills, what needs tolerating, and who gets the most out of renting one.
Key numbers
- 6.2-litre V8 (LT2) mounted amidships, 482 hp / 354 kW, 613 Nm,
- 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox (Tremec DCT), rear-wheel drive,
- 0–100 km/h in 2.9 s, top speed 312 km/h,
- 3LT Coupé trim (2023) — the top specification with a leather interior, premium audio and a head-up display,
- real-world consumption 13–15 l/100 km,
- rental from 17,990 CZK/day, refundable deposit 80,000 CZK.
Why mid-engine changes everything
Moving the V8 to the middle gave the C8 a weight distribution previous generations could only dream of. The car rotates around the driver, the front axle reacts instantly, and traction out of corners is phenomenal for a rear-wheel-drive car. Yet the character of a big naturally aspirated V8 remains: no turbo lag, linear pull and a sound that builds from a burble to a roar.
The dual-clutch Tremec shifts in a fraction of a second, and in automatic mode it's surprisingly civilised — in city traffic the C8 behaves like a grand tourer, not a race special.
How it drives in Prague
Surprisingly well. The mid-engine layout puts weight over the rear axle, so the car is very agile in corners — and city manoeuvring is manageable even in the narrow streets of the centre. Two things you'll appreciate most in Prague:
For a trip out of town we recommend the classics: Karlovy Vary, Český Krumlov or the ridges of the Ore Mountains — you'll enjoy the V8 most on an empty country road, not the motorway.
- The front axle lift — raises the front splitter by ~40 mm, so kerbs, speed bumps and garage ramps are no stress. The system even remembers GPS positions where you used it.
- Cameras and sensors — rear visibility is limited by the engine behind you, but the high-resolution reversing camera and parking sensors fully compensate.
The weak points — honestly
- Practicality — despite front and rear trunks, don't expect more than weekend luggage for two. A golf bag fits, a large suitcase doesn't.
- Getting in — the car is very low; an elegant entry takes practice and is a challenge in a tight skirt.
- Rear visibility — you won't manage without the camera, especially reversing out of a perpendicular space.
- City consumption — you'll rarely see below 15 l/100 km in Prague traffic. But let's be honest: fuel economy is not why you rent a V8 supercar.
Rental prices and conditions
Every rental includes 110 km per day, liability and comprehensive insurance with a deductible; over-limit kilometres cost 75 CZK each. The refundable deposit is 80,000 CZK, released within 48 hours after a problem-free return. Given the car's performance we require a minimum driver age of 28 and a licence held for at least 5 years. Full rules are in the rental conditions.
| Rental length | Price per day |
|---|---|
| 1–3 days | 17,990 CZK |
| 3–10 days | 16,490 CZK |
| 10–14 days | 14,990 CZK |
| 14+ days | 12,990 CZK |
C8 vs the European competition
For the daily rate you'd pay in Prague for a Porsche 911 or another European supercar, the Corvette gives you a naturally aspirated V8 mounted amidships — a configuration that in Europe starts at cars several times more expensive. That experience-to-price ratio is why our clients keep coming back to the C8: it's the most accessible way to rent a genuine supercar for a few days.
Who the C8 is ideal for
- An experience weekend — two days with a V8 behind your back will stay with you longer than most holidays.
- A special occasion — a birthday, an anniversary, a gift for a partner; the C8 owns every arrival.
- Photo and video shoots — the low silhouette and sharp edges work in front of a lens better than anything else in our fleet.
- Trying before buying — considering a supercar purchase? A few days with a C8 in real traffic tells you more than any review.
Frequently asked questions
Can the Corvette C8 handle normal Prague traffic?
Yes. In Tour mode it's civilised, the lift protects the splitter and the cameras handle visibility. The only thing you must accept is the attention.
What fuel does it take?
Premium petrol, 98 octane or higher — it's a contract condition and the LT2 engine needs it for full performance.
Can I drive the C8 outside Prague?
Yes, anywhere in Czechia within the daily kilometre limit. Driving abroad requires written approval in advance.
Why is the deposit higher than for other cars?
It reflects the value of the car and the cost of potential repairs. The 80,000 CZK is released within 48 hours after the car is returned without issues.
Book the Corvette C8 — we'll confirm typically within 1 hour. Want the car straight after landing? We'll arrange airport delivery.
